Praying for the World. |
Spring/Summer 1999
We are called to PRAY for the world...
Thank you for your willingness to pray! The Lord has great things in store for you. If
you are serious about becoming an intercessor, we would like to help you. Our desire is to
equip the Body of Christ to do great things in His name! We have felt for some time that
God is calling us to link together and mobilize praying people from all over the world. On
a regular basis, we plan to highlight different ministries, regions of the world, and
global issues that need prayer.
This is a page that we plan to expand often. Currently, we update this page every three
months (at least we try to!!), so please check back with us intermittently to receive new
prayer updates. Because this page contains many points of reference for your times of
prayer, we advise that you print it out and take it home with you where you can spend more
time going over these topics in prayer.

National Day of Repentance
May 5, 1999
Prior to The National Day of Prayer
by Lonnie Bringham, Prayer Summit
Ministries
The Lord is calling the body of Christ to a National Day of Repentance on May 5, 1999.
This is the day prior to the National Day of Prayer. The Church is responsible for many of
the problems in America. Our country is spiritually and morally bankrupt. We must repent
in many areas. We will provide your church and community materials for this "National
Day of Repentance." The following is a national statement of public confession. The
purpose of this statement is to call the Body of Christ to repentance throughout the
United States and to use this public confession to unify us in our repentance. This is
used with permission from Love Lubbock, Texas, who originally ran a full page add in their
local newspaper as a public apology to their community. The pastors of 30 churches were
represented and their signatures were displayed publicly. We will be providing additional
materials in the next few weeks. If your heart is grieved over the current condition of
the Church and America and you are urged to participate in the National Day of Repentance,
then contact the home office of Prayer Summit Ministry. We have other resources to help
your church and community, experience the power of God through the National Day of
Repentance.
The Need:
We must admit our failures personally and as the Church. We must repent along with
millions of other Christians for the sins we have committed. God desires to bring healing
to his Church. Then follow with a great outpouring of his Spirit. The results will be
revival fire breaking out across the country. Begin by asking the following questions:
Yes / No
1. Have you personally hindered the outpouring of Gods spirit in your life?
2. Do you feel that the Church has failed to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ?
3. Do you feel that the Church needs denominational and racial healing?
4. Does your heart grieve over lost souls?
5. Are you desperate to see God bring revival?
6. Are you willing to do anything to evangelize the world you live in?
If you answered Yes to any of these questions then you are ready,
willing and able!

What Will
Be The Outcome Of 1999?
The remaining months of this year are an extremely important season for
the church. If you are thinking "When is it ever not an important
season for the church?" you are right. The importance of any hour or season can
never be underestimated. However, just as there are times to rest and times to work, there
are seasons that require more of us in terms of intercessory prayer. This is one of those
seasons. At this time, God is laying a "call to pray" on the hearts of
believers all over the world. Are you one of them? If you have found your
way to this page, I believe you are.
The Burden of Prayerlessness
Recently, for the period of about a week, I found myself fighting a host of emotions
that left me drained and listless at the end of the day. When I got off work, I wandered
around trying to figure out what to do, but nothing satisfied me. The things that used to
bless me only left me feeling emptier inside. I considered it a victory day, if I managed
to get through it without yielding to depression. What brought about this change? I hadn't
been able to put my finger on the problem until just recently. After enduring this
oppression for so long, I finally began to cry out to the Lord in tears, asking Him to
forgive me if I had let some unknown sin take hold of me. The answer He spoke to me was
very simple. He directed me to pray for an hour in the Spirit. As I began to obediently
pray while cleaning my kitchen, the heaviness immediately began to lift and the Lord
showed me what was really going on.
The depression I was feeling was a result of not giving into the prayer burden that the
Lord had placed upon me. Sure, I had been praying and chatting with the Lord all day long
during this time, as is my habit. But there was more that the Lord wanted me to be doing.
He was calling me to set aside long chunks of time for strategic intercessory prayer for
the things that were weighing on my spirit. As soon as I began to pray, the peace of God
filled my heart and I had the positive sense that things around me were being affected for
God's glory. I could only wonder at my stupidity for not responding to the call earlier.
If you are feeling a certain heaviness, it could be that you haven't properly responded
to a burden that the Lord wants you to "pray through." In fact, the Lord began
to show me that there are many of His people who are currently in the same quandary
I was just in. All over the world, "would-be intercessors" are looking for
avenues to rid themselves of depression, when the Lord is calling them to find peace
through intimate times of prayer and fellowship with Him. In fact, if you are depressed,
no matter what the source of it, your answer is found in prayer and in pouring out your
heart to the only Counselor who is called "Wonderful"--our Lord Jesus Christ.
Please don't try to ease your prayer burden through some other means.
If there ever was a time when we needed to cease from "business as usual" it
is now. All over the world, judgements are falling. More Christians are being persecuted
today than ever before in history, yet world evangelization is closer within our reach
than ever. Prophets warn of financial collapse, and the uncertainty of what the new
millenium will bring hangs over the entire globe. Wars and instability threaten much of
the world--yet simultaneously, greater outpourings of the Holy Spirit are occurring in the
church worldwide. "Intense" would be a good word to describe the days
that we are living in--and it looks like things are only destined to grow more
intense from here on out. In addition, most of us have friends and loved ones who haven't
yet committed to the Lord and we are concerned for their safety in the coming days.
Whatever your concerns may be, you can rest assured that the Lord wouldn't be calling you
to pray about them, if there wasn't salvation, restoration, and disaster prevention that
He wants to bring about as a result of your prayers. He has given us the power to
change the world for the better.
Urgency for Prayer in 1999
Intercessor Chuck Pierce, of the World Prayer Center in Colorado Springs, has urgently
sought the Lord for His plan for the year 1999. He feels the Lord showed Him several
important months of this year where we particularly need to be standing in prayer. These
months are: February, April, July and October. Seek the Lord, as to what sort of prayer
you should engage in during those months. If you haven't yet read the consensus of many of
the major prophetic voices (such as Rick Joyner, Bill Hamon, and Cindy Jacobs) for 1999,
it is available through the March/April Digest. We encourage you to read it, as it
will help focus your prayers against certain plans of the enemy (Satan) which have been
revealed.
I believe the Lord is preparing the Church for a time of great increase in faith. This
supernatural faith will be crucial for us in the days ahead. The world in its old form is
passing away. Currently, very few in the Body of Christ (least of all myself) are walking
in the kind of supernatural faith that will soon be considered "normal
Christianity." However, things are about to change. In my prayer closet, I feel the
stirrings of a very different woman arising in my spirit, far different than my everyday
self. I can feel the cracking and splitting of the earth, deep inside me, as new life
groans to come forth--and I know that the same thing is happening with many of you. The
more time that we are able to spend in prayer and intercession now, the greater will be
our authority to minister the will of God in public in the future. Our response to Him now,
not only determines our own destiny, but the destinies of others. This is a sobering
thought and God wants us to receive it with all seriousness. Countless lives hang in the
balance.
Tonight, instead of temporarily escaping from your emotions with the mindless clatter
of television or whatever activities you fill your spare time with, won't you instead give
yourself to the Lord? In His presence, though you may travail with the burden of
intercession, you will find peace--His peace that passes understanding. The only
place on earth this peace can be found, is in active obedience to His will. There are no
shortcuts or substitutions for it. Though you may not be sure of His exact will for you at
this moment, you can be sure of one thing--the answer is found in "taking it to the
Lord in prayer."

URGENT!
Prayer needed for persecuted
Christians
"Millions of American Christians pray in their churches
every week, oblivious to the fact that Christians in many parts of the world suffer brutal
torture, arrest, imprisonment, and even death--their home and communities laid waste--for
no other reason than they are Christians. The
shocking untold story of our time is that more Christians have died in this century simply
for being Christians, than in the previous 19 centuries combined. They have been persecuted before and martyred before an unknowing,
indifferent world and a largely silent Christian community." Nina Shea, Freedom
House
"There should be no division in the body, but the parts
should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with
it" (1 Corinthians 12:25-26).
This prayer focus spotlight will be continually dedicated to the
two hundred million Christians in over 60 countries worldwide who live in daily fear of
secret police, vigilantes, or state repression and discrimination. Please keep the
persecuted church in your prayers on a daily basis. As the Body of Christ, we are called
to pray for and uphold each other, regardless of denominational, doctrinal, or national
differences.
Prayer Focus This Month: INDIA
There are places in the world where Christianity is under greater threat from
government regimes than India. However, with the recent escalation of persecution of
Christians in northern India, we feel that it is appropriate to focus our prayers on this
nation. God has a mighty plan and great love for the nation of India, and we need to bathe
this land in prayer. Consider a few of the recent attacks against Christians that have
occurred just since Christmas of 1998:
* 28 Churches burned in the state of Gujarat.
* Three seminary students were brutally beaten with rods while returning from a prayer
meeting in the state of Kerala.
* In that region, nuns were molested without any action taken against the offenders.
* Four missionaries from Kerala were attacked in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Perhaps the most famous and tragic of these incidents was the burning to death
of an Australian medical missionary and his two young sons while they slept in their
vehicle. This incident occurred on January 23. Graham Stewart Staines, had been a
missionary in India for many years, and was on excellent terms with local people. However,
in the current wave of anti-Christian violence, he and his sons were murdered by a mob of
Hindu extremists.
This incident made national news in India and many were touched to hear Mrs. Staines
and the rest of their family pray for forgiveness for the murderers of her husband. At the
funeral (which was televised in part), they sang "Because He Lives" to the
nation of India.
Christians in India have seen a positive outcome to this recent persecution. Many
Hindus are now asking them what exactly they believe and are becoming curious about
Christianity.
Please pray that because of the current persecution, multitudes will
become more aware of, and drawn to the love of Christ.
Pray that believers will be given favor with those around them, and will
boldly and humbly stand for the truth.
Pray for a mighty move of God in India with the power of God demonstrated
in visible ways.
For more information about the persecuted church, we recommend
"Their Blood Cries Out" by Dr. Paul Marshall, one of the world's leading
authorities on religious persecution. Published in 1997, this book is full of up-to-date
information and many personal testimonies of those who live in areas of persecution all
over the world. The author not only reports what the media has not reported, but he also
looks deeper into the issues of persecution of Christians in general. He offers answers as
to why it is being ignored by the media and academia, as well as much of the Western
church. This book is a great tool; not only for intercessors, but also for those who are
interested in cross-cultural ministry and evangelism. Perhaps one of the greatest triumphs
of this book is that it effectively destroys the popular myth that most Christians are
"Western, white and male." Smashing stereotypes and misconceptions right and
left, this book is extremely well-written and broad in its scope. Dr. Marshall writes with
skill and balance between fact and emotion.
If you would like to order "Their Blood Cries Out," it
is available in our Chapel Bookstore.
If you would like more involvement in helping the persecuted
church at large, please contact OPEN DOORS. It is a large international, evangelical
organization formed to help suffering Christians throughout the world. They distribute
free Bibles and Christian literature in restricted countries, and publish a monthly
newsletter and prayer calendar for the persecuted church. We highly recommend this
ministry.

Praying for
Unreached Peoples
"The Secret is found in Genesis 1"
By Pastor Ted Haggard, New Life Church
Reprinted with permission
It was my third day in Nepal. I was in the middle of a two-week prayer
journey to the Himalayas with 48 people from Colorado Springs. Sitting there on the tiny
bed in my hotel room in Katmandu, I had just finished reading Genesis 1 for the fourteenth
time.
The Spirit of the Lord kept speaking to me, "The secret is in
Genesis 1." So I reread Genesis 1 for the fifteenth time. But it was the same as
before. After reading it again for the sixteenth time, God again whispered into my heart, "The
secret is is Genesis 1."
Suddenly, on the seventeenth reading, God's commands began leaping off
the pages at me. They formed a prayer outline, especially for the unreached people
groups--one that would help all Christians. As I started to pray for the 43 unreached
people groups of Nepal, I knew God had supernaturally granted a spiritual breakthrough.
The next day, twelve of us went up a mountain that overlooked an area
where seven unreached people groups lived. As we looked over the mountainous terrain, I
coached the intercessors on how to pray through the Genesis 1 outline. It was my
"sermon on the mount."
Genesis 1:2 describes lost people. "The earth was
formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep and the Spirit of God was
hovering over the waters." People who don't know Christ lead lives that are
spiritually formless, empty and dark, but the Spirit of God is hovering over them.
The evidence of darkness was obvious as we listened to the national
brethren talk about these people groups. One group suffers a 60% child mortality rate
because they leave their newborn infants on the floor of the hut while they work in the
fields all day. Others take their babies to the fields with them, leaving them in the sun
for 12 to 14 hours. When they return to find them dead, they rationalize, "The
spirits of the gods came and took our babies while we were gone." Such darkness!
But the spirit of God is hovering over them, wanting to draw them to
Himself. And that is why we must pray.
Prayer #1: "Let There Be Light."
God's first command to bring order out of chaos was, "Let there
be light" (Genesis 1:3). Only the Lord can transform a person's darkness into
light, because He is light Himself. So when we pray, "Let there be light," we
are commanding, as God's ambassadors, that the darkness dissipate and that the intensity
of His light increase. It is only in the presence of the light that people can begin to
see their own condition and the depravity of their lives.
Prayer #2: "Separate Water From Water."
Every culture, every person seeks spiritual refreshing, often symbolized
by water. Some "water" is the genuine refreshing of the Holy Spirit. Much of it,
though, is empty religious practices that don't truly satisfy or provide eternal life.
This prayer asks God to move by the power of His Spirit to separate true living water from
the false religion in people's hearts.
To find spiritual refreshing, some dip in the Ganges, rub beads, light
candles, burn inscence, pour water or blood over statues, recite endless prayers, or visit
holy sites. Others get a new wife, work endless hours, buy a new car, or become consumed
in sports.
People often find "water" that gives some degree of
satisfaction. However, it isn't the refreshing living water that only God provides, as
explained in Ezekiel 47--where water flows out of the temple, becoming deeper and deeper
the farther out you go. It's this living water which Jesus described to the woman at the
well (John 4:10).
Prayer #3: "Let The Water Be Gathered To One Place."
After the waters have separated, then we ask God to gather those who
have tasted the true water, the believers. "Let the water under the sky be
gathered to one place and let dry ground appear. (v. 9). This reminds us to pray that
the new Believers will begin to unite and form local churches, and as they do, the
surrounding dry ground will bear fruit from the life-giving water.
Prayer #4: "Let The Land Produce Vegetation."
Wherever God's fresh water flows, there fruit begins growing. In verse
11, God commands, "Let the land produce vegetation." This vegetation is
first of all, passive. It's not proactive, aggressive or strategic. It's simply growing
and reproducing as a result of fertile soil and fresh water--much like new Christians who
develop around every birthing, life-giving church. So, as we pray for birthing new
churches from Prayer #3, it is important to pray that the surrounding communities yield a
harvest of new Christians who will grow and reach out to others.
Prayer # 5: "Let There Be Lights In The Sky."
We set our clocks by the sun. We know the season according to what the
moon is doing. You can be out in the middle of the ocean, and by looking at the stars, you
can determine the latitude and longitude. We can each tell where we are in space and time
by the sun, the moon, and the stars. And that is what the gospel message does for an
unreached people group. It tells them where they are in space and time--where their lives
are in relation to their role on earth, and in time, how close they are to eternity.
In absolute darkness, someone could put a revolver in your face, and you
wouldn't know you were in danger. But if there's light, you can clearly see the facts. As
local churches begin to form with fruit growing around them, His light provides a bearing
for everyone in the community. Truth begins to displace the ignorance and confusion of
darkness. When we pray, "Let there be lights in the sky," we are praying that
the Christian community will begin to influence cultural norms and community standards.
The shifting of these norms and standards is proof that people are not wandering in
darkness, but now the light and life of the Lord is beginning to show them the way.
Prayer #6: "Let The Waters Teem With Living Creatures."
Since gathered water is the local church, now we pray for activity and
life in those churches. God commanded, "Let the water teem with living
creatures" (v. 20). This is not a passive prayer, but a strong, commanding
prayer. The Hebrew word for "teem" means "swarming, prolific,
abounding." It's the same word describing the plague of frogs that struck the
Egyptians (Exodus 8:3, Psalm 105:30), and the rapid growth of the Israelite population in
Egypt (Exodus 1:7). This is a rapid proliferation of life and activity.
The Christians in Nepal are an example of this. According to church
elders in Katmandu, 87% of born-again believers in Nepal tithe. Why? Because over 90% of
them came to Christ through a sign, wonder, or miracle that convinced them that the God of
the Bible is truly the one and only Almighty God. They were not persuaded intellectually.
So when praying for any local church, it is vitally important to pray, commanding life to
increase prolifically.
Prayer #7: "Let The Land Produce Living Creatures."
Next, God commanded, "Let the land produce living creatures
according to their kinds" (v. 24). This is a prayer that proactive fruit will
develop in abundance around the life-giving local church. We want fruit that gives
strength and is nourishing. We want fruit that produces, intentionally reproduces, and
begins to powerfully impact the region. This fruit is proactive, aggressive and strategic.
Here, the living creatures remind us to pray that the churches become strong, multiply,
and send out missionaries.
Prayer #8: "Let Us Make Man In Our Image."
God said, "Let us (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) make man in Our
image, Our likeness" (v. 27). So we pray, "Let Christ be present, in the
community through the church."
When Jesus was on the earth, we knew what God was like by watching Him.
When Jesus ascended to the right hand of the father, he sent the Holy Spirit and
established the church as His body, His representation, His expression on earth. So this
prayer, "Let us make man in our image," is the reason why we need healthy local
churches. It is to help believers mature spiritually within a local church. That's why we
pray, finance missions, and serve others. Sinful man will then be transformed into the
image of God.
Prayer #9: "Be Fruitful And Increase."
Finally, God commands the multiplication of those made in His image. "Be
fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it" (v. 28). He's
commanding blessing, that we may reach the earth so that people no longer wander in
darkness, separated from God, hopeless and helpless.
So many people are in spiritual darkness, living without Christ, not
only in Nepal but all over the world. Genesis 1:2 says that "darkness was
over the surface of the deep" but "the Spirit of God was hovering over
the waters."
When you pray Genesis 1 over unreached people groups or friends,
neighbors or relatives, you will pillage hell. Darkness can't overcome Jesus Christ, the
Light of the World. You're praying the whole creation process. You're praying what God
commands.

Unlimited's Prayer Requests
Updated 05/1/99
We do appreciate your interest in our ministry and willingness to pray
for us. God has really been answering our prayers. We have a
wonderful praise report to share with you! Those of you who have
been praying for us know that we have desperately needed more help managing and developing
the website, as well as office help (especially as the number of people visiting our
website continues to expand). We have listed this prayer request many times on this page.
Well, God is answering them, by connecting us with many important people recently who will
be playing a big role in the development of this website in the days to come. Thanks for
your prayers!
Another wonderful praise report is that God has increased our finances
to do some much-needed development at our ministry headquarters, and to take care of some
things that we were behind on.
Thank you for your prayers on these issues. You have helped makes these
things possible. We do have a few more prayer requests to share with you as well.
*Pray that we will continue to
develop the website as the Lord would have us. We want to re-design the layout of the
site, as well as do a lot more development on it. We appreciate any suggestions
that you might have.
*Pray that God will give us wisdom
on how to properly expand and run our Chapel Bookstore.
*Pray for us as we launch into this
new season. We feel many changes in the air and we appreciate all who will stand with us

Statement of Public Confession
May 5, 1999
With this statement we who
represent various
Christian fellowships in
our city, publicly confess
that we have failed to
demonstrate the love of
Jesus Christ toward one
another in ways in which
our community has been able
to see.
We purpose to turn from the
practices and
attitudes that have brought
this failure about
and commit ourselves
to pray and to work together
to create
an atmosphere for revival in our city.
It is our deep desire that
each one in our
community might know, by
our love,
that a relationship with
Jesus Christ
is the solution to all of
our needs.
We invite our community to
watch for the proofs
of what we say as we show
our community
how we love one another.
