The Wisdom
of God
Verses for the Day:
Proverbs 22:19-21 (KJV): 19 That thy trust
may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou
mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee? Proverbs 22:19-21 (AMP): 19 So that your trust
[belief, reliance, support and confidence] may be in the Lord, I have made
known these things to you today, even to you.
20 Have I not written to you (long ago) excellent things in counsels and
knowledge,
21 To make you know the certainty of the words of truth, that you may give a
true answer to those who sent you?
Thoughts for the Day:
These verses in Proverbs
are all about knowing truth, and who is the source of all truth. King Solomon,
who wrote these Proverbs, is addressing all those who will listen, as to
how they can know truth. He is witnessing. He tells us in these scriptures that one
of the most defining aspects of truth is that it is enduring and will stand.
Older people can attest to this, as they have had a lifetime to observe certain
things, and just by observation they can tell you there is a cause and effect
principle in the course of this life. (The Bible calls it the sowing and reaping
principle.) History buffs will attest to the same things, as they watch how
nations evolve through certain stages because of their deeds and actions. Wicked
nations end up in destruction and nations who honor Christ are blessed.
What is truth?
Actually, the question should be, WHO is truth? We find that answer in the
Bible, in both the Old and New Testament. Solomon prophetically says in verse
20, "Long ago, it was written in excellent counsels and knowledge about the
truth." Here is one record of it in the Old Testament:
Deuteronomy
32:1-4 & 7:
1 Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my
mouth.
2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the
small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass:
3 Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our
God.
4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment:
a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right
is he.
7 Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy
father, and he will show thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.
Our God is a God
of truth. We find this written of the Father God, His Son, Jesus Christ, and the
Holy Spirit. In the gospels, Jesus told His disciples that He was the truth and
that we could receive that truth through the Holy Spirit.
John 14:6-7:
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth
ye know him, and have seen him.
John 14:16-17:
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he
may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him
not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall
be in you.
Therefore, if we
want to know the truth, we must seek to know God through His Son, Jesus Christ.
After we receive Jesus in our hearts, then we must listen to His Words and obey
them, if we want to know and walk in truth. The Bible tells us we have an enemy,
the devil, and he is the opposite of truth; he is a liar and the father of lies.
We either have the true God as our Father, or our father is the devil, according
to the scripture below:
John 8:44-47:
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He
was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is
no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a
liar, and the father of it.
45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not
believe me?
47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye
are not of God.
If we want to know
the truth, then we must seek to know Jesus, and heed His Words of truth from the
Bible. Jesus is not only the Truth, He is also known as the Word.
Along with finding the truth, we will also see the light, and find eternal life.
These are some of my favorite scriptures that attest to that fact:
John 1:1-17:
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was
made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men
through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him
not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God,
even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will
of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He
that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
May we be good
witnesses of our Lord Jesus Christ, as John and Solomon were.
Prayer for the Day:
Dear Heavenly Father,
I am so thankful to know the truth of Your Word. It has not only brought me light,
but Your love as well. Thank You for loving me and forgiving me and giving
me the precious Holy Spirit. Lord, may I always share this marvelous light
through allowing You to live in me, and through me. May others desire to
know You, through my witness. Lord, forgive me when I fail You and
am not a good representative of Your nature. Fill me daily with Your Holy
Spirit and guide me in the way that will bring glory to You. I ask this in
the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
